I received this e-mail from my penpal. I'm very new at Japanese so I used a chart to convert the characters over. However, some words cannot be found in my dictionary.





Can you correct any errors I might have had? Can you tell me what I'm doing wrong?





My Translation:





jishiyo katsutanda! sugoine (^w^)itsuka, arekusu-to


nibongode hanasetara iina.

small "tsu" means that you have to double the next letter.

kattanda- Bought (past tense.)





Sugoi ne~!- That' so cool. (Said female style, BTW, don't use it if you're male)





Itsuka- Always.


Arekkusu- Alex.


to- and


nihongo- Japanese.


dewa- Well, so, then. (The "ha" is read "wa" in this case")


nasetara- Become.


iina-- It's good isn't it?

BTW, take out all space in Japanese. There are no spaces in Japanese. It might help with translation.





Girls also use "ne" more than guys and also tend to ask more questions too. (Questions in Japanese tend to be viewed as less intrusive and polite as well.. but many translators translate them into statements out of reflex to try t translate the Japanese way of speaking into an English speaker's one.) Also reflexives are more feminine than masculine. iina... is kind of feminine.

It might also help if you ask her to write in Kanji... it's easier to get her meaning and it's good practice too. For her and for you. Kana is kind of feminine to write in.





It might also be fun to ask her for the kanji in her name. I did someone similar with my own penpal.|||Oh, this is an e-mail FROM her. My bad.





じしょ かったんだ is jisho kattanda not jishiyo katsutanda. I still don't understand it.
