"Princesa" ("princess") is also common, and usually much appreciated by girls. Things like "doce" or "docinho" (lit. "candy, sweet"), or "beb茅" (lit. "baby") are already a bit soppy, but not that uncommon.|||bebe

Why can't wikipedia adopt the google approach (altho I do admire wikipedia's donation approach)?

i mean google used to be completely commercial free (i.e. not a company), and then it changed, becomes a private owned publicly traded company, got branches all over the world, but when we use its main services, like search engine, google docs, talks, translations, etc, we don't experience ads at all!

ofcoz the secret is that google post ads to all THE OTHER websites, just not on its own, lol, so yea if wikipedia tried to keep commercial out, why can't it emulate the google doctrine, and operates like google?|||It can't because it is legally prohibited from doing so. As much as "Sole Founder" and "God-King" Jimbo Wales might love to take Wikipedia "public", he is no longer in a position to do that. In June, 2003, well before it became as large and popular as it is today, Jimbo and his company Bomis (who owned the original servers) donated Wikipedia to the newly created Wikimedia Foundation ("WMF"), and presumably got an income tax deduction. Since the WMF was set up as an "educational" charity under the laws of Florida, it cannot now be sold as a "going concern" to a business corporation. In the event that the WMF is later dissolved, the physical assets (the servers, computers, office equipment, etc.) could be sold, but by law any net proceeds from such a sale would have to be donated to another charitable foundation "that is engaged in substantially similar activities". The same would apply to any money left on hand.|||What are you talking about? What do you think the "sponsored links" at the top and on the right side of the results list are? Google has ads on every single one of their services, you just don't notice them because they're subtle.

And Wikipedia won't go private because it's an open-source collaboration, unlike Google, which has always been run entirely by private individuals. Also, Wikipedia doesn't have ads, only when they're having a fundraising drive. Like any public TV or radio station, Wikipedia is supported by users like you.

Why does google chrome suck at translating latin?

I mean, even if you input just one word it usually doesn't have a good translation or at least just a translation for that word.

Is it that they don't have enough Latin language speaking workers? or are they too lazy to grab a Latin dictionary and add the words.|||Just grabbing a Latin dictionary and adding the words wouldn't be enough. The reason NO online translation site is very good at Latin is that Latin is a highly inflected language, with at least ten forms for every noun and dozens for every verb. Evidently a computer can't yet understand the intricacies of grammar! So if you ask for a translation of a sentence as simple as "Marcus loves Julia," you'll probably get "Marcus amo Julia," because the program won't know that, as the direct object, "Julia" should be "Juliam" or that the form of the verb for "love" to use with a third-person singular subject is "amat." If you're trying to translate from Latin to English and type in "Marcus Juliam amat," it might give you a good translation, or at least one that would be accurate once you changed the word order from "Marcus Julia loves."

As for actual word meanings, I've been puzzled several times by the definitions I've seen people cite here that they've found on translation sites. However, there ARE free online Latin-English dictionaries that can be helpful if you already know some Latin grammar. I sometimes use one when I'm away from home.

Finally, adding more workers who know Latin won't make any difference unless a translation site actually has people reading each question and responding individually, as the answerers on THIS site do.|||it's machine translation - i.e. done by software, not by "Latin speaking workers" [comic idea] If you are haviug problems translating Latin, is it because you are too lazy to consult a dictionary, or simply too mean to buy one? a simple dictionary adequate for school-level Latin [though not good enough for uni] is very cheap, and readily available secondhand.

in general, people don;t speak Latin - they learn it to read the literature.

    Someone can help me, please?

(No translations from Google Translate please, because normally the translations are not all right)|||I assume you meant to write "murderous mind eye," not "murderess (female murderer) mind eye."

If "mind reader eye" is "dokushingan" 瑾績鐪? then I suggest "sakkigan" 娈烘皸鐪?for "murderous mind eye."

"Sakki" is a noun meaning "a look of menace," "a determination to kill," or "bloodthirstiness."

For example, a sentence 褰笺伄鐪笺伀銇姘椼亴銇裤仾銇庛仯銇︺亜銈?(Kare no me niwa sakki ga minagitte iru. Literally, his eyes are filled with bloodthirstiness) may be translated as "There is murder in his eyes."

If, instead, you really meant "murderess mind eye," then please ignore this answer of mine.|||For a concept as unusual as this, there's no point in asking for a direct word for word translation. Find a Japanese speaker who also speaks English extremely well, and explain your whole concept in detail to him or her. Once you're satisfied they've understood exactly what you're trying to put over, let them have some time to work out the best way of translating this into Japanese.

It doesn't help that the phrase doesn't actually make sense in English! - and neither does "mind reader eye". Do you mean "the eye of a mind reader"? Your EXACT meaning is absolutely crucial here.

a person who represents someone (or a government) in a country , meeting or negotiations, and he/she has a fuul freedom to decide and act

the google translation gives this word " Plenipotentiary Representative"

is that right? is there any word that is more common?|||Representative. Envoy. Ambassador. Plenipotentary has a slightly old-fashioned ring, though technically correct.|||"Plenipotentiary" ("given full powers") is the technical term. Most of us would settle for "representative", although this gives no certainty about his (or her) power to act independently.

"Envoy" is another possibility, although that rather downplays any possible power of independent action. In these days of instant telecommunication, however, few representatives ever get the power to do anything completely unsupervised.. And the way the Greek Prime Minister has just overthrown the "decisions" on an international meeting by referring the Greek representative's agreement to it by announcing a referendum which will assuredly turn it down proves my point!

    What is 'tr氓kl氓t锘?#039;? I think it's Swedish, but i can't find a good translation site (like translate.google)?

It's translated as 'trakl'... Which is no help.

The word is mentioned here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_lO3tQM5i鈥?/a>|||tr氓kig = boring

    l氓t = song

    tr氓kl氓t = "boring song"

Pretty sure that's not an actual word but it's the type of word that can be created and everyone will know what it means. ;)|||.

    Dear ".",

Serendipity is correct, it means boring.

However, the word is "Tr氓kig" in Swedish. (or "trakig" in the Swenglish version).

"En tr氓k" is a boring person or thing.

Me speeke de Swede Talk! :-)

    Hope this helped!

    JohnW|||It means "boring song".

Serendipity and SERENDIPITIST are both more or less right, but I would add that "tr氓k" is not a very common word (and I think more often are used for something like "boredom" or "drabness"), whereas the word in this compound actually is "tr氓kig", like Serendipity says. The thing is, when you use the adjective "tr氓kig" as the first part of a compounded word you always drop the "ig"-ending amd just keep the stem of the word (i e "tr氓k-").

So, better give your points to Serendipity this time.

I might add that "l氓t" is an informal, everyday word for song, and is mostly used about pop or entertainment songs, not about classical art songs. The more general word for song is "s氓ng".

    Easy Google Translate Question HELP?

I need help with an english to chinease translation. Google translate didnt work. Im trying to say

"a history of china from the begining to the end"

I think i translated it right to be:

    中国的历史从开始来

"Chinese History, from beginning on" is better because Chinese history doesn't have an end -- it is still being written.

If you insist on saying "from beginning to end" then

How to write the name 'Sabi' in hindi?

How to write the name Sabi or I love you Sabi in Hindi? Google translation is confusing. Thanks|||सबी

That's if the name is said Sabee. In hindi you have short and long vowels. The A in Sabee as I wrote it before would be said like the U in the english word "sun".

If it's said "Saabee" (with a long A, something between the english A in "cat" and in "fast"), then you write it like that:

    साबी

Hindi also have long and short I.

I assumed this name is said with a long I, and that "Sabi" rhymes with the english word "See".

But if it's said like the I in "baby", then it should be written साबि (long A), or सबि (short A).

    I love you is:

Main tum se pyaar karti hoon

    मैं तुम से पयार कारती हूँ

That's if you're a girl. If you're a boy, you say "karta hoon" at the end: कारता हूँ|||साबिन

Is there any way to turn virtually the Computer keyboard in greek symbols?

because I am tired to copy the symbols one by one and then to paste to google translation|||It's pretty easy, actually. This is how is done on a PC. I have no idea how Macs work.

In the bottom right corner, there should appear a small EN box, which means your language, English. If it is not there, open a writing software (Microsoft Word, for instance) and it will appear. Click on it and you'll see that it will show this:

    EN English (Country)*

    Show the language bar

*It should show the the English speaking country you bought the computer. Mine says United Kingdom, for instance.

Now, you click on the "Show the language bar" and a thin bar should appear somewhere on the top of the screen where it writes the language you are typing ("EN English (Country)", a help button, a minimize button and an options button. What you need is the options button, and that's why you're going to click it.

Once you click it, it will show you at least four options. Click the settings option. It shall open you the "Text Services and Input languages" window. This is were you select the language you want.

Click on the "Add..." button and it will open you a window with all the languages your computer has in its database. Greek should be somewhere there. Expand it and it will give you several Greek writing systems to choose from. Most of them aren't truly Greek. What should interest you are only two options: The first "Greek" box and/or the "Greek Polytonic" box.

If you are from Greece, you know their differences. If you're not, and you're wondering "What the heck?", the Greek option is a simplified Greek, which is also the standard Greek used in Greece. The Greek Polytonic is basically the same, only that it has more accents. It's the writing system used 30-40 years ago as standard and it is still used for writing the Ancient Greek language. Nevertheless, the choice is yours. Even if you don't like one of them, you can always change it, remove it etc.

Now click on your desired language and hit the okay button. Now Greek is listed right after English. Hit okay and you're done.

Now, to change between languages, you can either simply hit Shift+Alt, or you can just click on the EN little button -assuming that you have minimized the language bar by now- and click on the desired language.|||Hi. Hello. Did any of you ever played around with Google Translation?

First i wrote random stuff: Hello, my fellow koreans! i love kimchi and rice. i love soccer, and enjoy many computer games that is violent and gory. i feel that North Korea needs lots of help. sorry for my strange writing, but sometimes translating can be too exact. i will know anyway that the translated part will sound very stupid. i love this great country call america. but i really don't approve of our current government because of their persistent refusal to listen to most of what we citizens have to say. i say that the government needs cleaning up as much as they cleaned up their controversial action. anyway, i love people of every nation. i love races, not the racist.
