what words can we use in everyday english for this ?
a person who represents someone (or a government) in a country , meeting or negotiations, and he/she has a fuul freedom to decide and act
the google translation gives this word " Plenipotentiary Representative"
is that right? is there any word that is more common?|||Representative. Envoy. Ambassador. Plenipotentary has a slightly old-fashioned ring, though technically correct.|||"Plenipotentiary" ("given full powers") is the technical term. Most of us would settle for "representative", although this gives no certainty about his (or her) power to act independently.
"Envoy" is another possibility, although that rather downplays any possible power of independent action. In these days of instant telecommunication, however, few representatives ever get the power to do anything completely unsupervised.. And the way the Greek Prime Minister has just overthrown the "decisions" on an international meeting by referring the Greek representative's agreement to it by announcing a referendum which will assuredly turn it down proves my point!
