What is the best method of translation?

As a freelance translator I get both simple and complex texts. There may be various methods of translation. I get background information from the books, Internet etc. Then I try to find online resources for the work. Then I start translation. Google helps me a lot in clarifying the context.





I hope to know about other methods. It will be definitely interesting and helpful for me to get suggestions from other persons.|||i think Babylon is the best method.|||I speak Spanish and English. The one thing I hate about translations is when they are "exact". There are many terms and ideas that really don't have an equivalent in the other language...therefore they should be "interpreted". I'll give you an example: In Spanish you use "flaca"-skinny as a nickname/term of endearment.. just like you would say hun, dear..etc. But if you call someone skinny in English it has more of a negative connotation and loses that friendly, warmth that it has in Spanish....you would have to look for a different word in English, such as hun, that has the same connotation.|||i find it best to work in ideas, rather than words. If you stick to the words, your translation comes out all stilted and uncomfortable. Get the ideas in source language, then concentrate on making it read well and smoothly in the target language. You'll have to change quite a lot, but flow is more important than strict accuracy.
