How accurate is google translate?

I'm specifically asking about one word translations...not full sentences.





For example, if I type: "surgery" in English and translate to Farsi...





Is it usually accurate?|||It's not very accurate. I find that google translate will give you a basis to work on, but most of the time you need to check around to confirm it.|||I've never used it, but I've seen the mangled results people obtain from trying to turn English inot Latin ontranslation sites. It does seem to me, though, that since these sites basically look up each word and give the first equivalent they find, they ought to do fairly well with translating single words. However, try this test: Type in some single English words to be translated into a language you know. That way you can check the accuracy of the translation yourself and decide whether you want to trust the site with a language you DON'T know. .|||yes it's very good for one word translation, in the paragraphs translation you may get the general idea but most of the time the words together doesn't make sense


i like it cuz it gives more than one meaning usually


but it's always better to have like a (background) about the word, like knowing the possible meanings|||For words with a limited connotation like "surgery", the translation would likely be accurate.





For sentences, especially with colloquial expressions, it is pretty useless.|||It is not very accurate, but it gives a good idea to what the word needs to be. For example they would put the male form of the word instead of female when needed|||Yeah, simple words are accurate, because appears a list of all the other translated meanings under the main translated word.|||Seeing that it cannot translate English into French accurately , I don't think it would do well with farsi, don't use it.|||Sometimes pretty good, but all those machine translators sometimes make very bizarre choices about how to render something.
